Police in Rubirizi District are searching for a 19-year-old man accused of defiling a 10-year-old girl. The incident occurred on November 23, 2024, in Kijurugo Cell, Magambo Sub County, Rubirizi District and the suspect wanted has been identified as Innocent Namanya, a resident of the same area.

Martial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Region police spokesperson says the victim, whose identity has been withheld, is a P.2 pupil at Ndekye Primary School. According to reports, on the evening of November 23, Namanya called the victim to his home, sent her with Shs.2,000 to buy a bar of soap worth Shs.1,000 from a nearby shop.

The victim returned with the soap and the balance of Shs.1000, Namanya allegedly instructed her to take the items into his house; he followed her inside, grabbed her, and threatened to kill her if she screamed as he sexually assaulted her.

He allegedly gave her Shs.600 and warned her not to disclose the incident to anyone. However, upon returning home, the victim informed her mother, who confronted Namanya. Upon seeing the victim's mother, the suspect fled the scene.

The victim has since been examined by a doctor, who confirmed that her hymen was newly ruptured. Efforts to apprehend the suspect are currently underway.
