Police in Mitooma District are investigating circumstances surrounding the drowning of a three-year-old child in a water body at Nyakitoko village in Mahwizi Mutara Sub-County.

Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as the three-year-old son of Anitah Nuwasasira, a resident of Nyakabale Village, Mutara Sub County in Mitooma District.

According to reports, Nuwasasira had secured a job in Kampala and temporarily left her son in the care of a family friend a one Natukunda. On Sunday, Nuwasasira left her son at home with others but was unable to locate him upon her return at. After searching the area in vain, she reported the matter to the local chairperson.

Tumusiime stated that on the following day, the child's body was discovered on the bank of the Katizi water stream and it was retrieved, taken to Kitagata Hospital for a postmortem examination.
