The Grade One
Magistrate Court in Buhweju district has issued a
warrant of Arrest to Mwijukye Francis, the Member of Parliament
for Buhweju constituency. The legislator, who is accused of
inciting violence was supposed to appear in court on Tuesday, August 7th but he didn’t
show up.
Hon Mwijukye is accused
of inciting violence that resulted from a land-related brawl which
happened on May 13 at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church. On that day,
unknown thugs attacked Hon Mwijukye who had gone to listen to concerns
from Christians regarding the alleged grabbing of church land and other
people in this church were beaten, injured and taken to hospital for medical
treatment.
Hon Mwijukye was later
transferred to Kenyan Hospital, Ag Khan where he spent weeks getting treatment
over head injuries he sustained. Mwijukye of recent returned from Hospital and
was accused of inciting violence hence asked to come to court which he
didn’t do.
As a result, the Grade One
Magistrate Daniel Kavuma issued a warrant of arrest ordering
police to arrest Hon Mwijukye and produce him in court on 14th
August next week after failing to honour the court's summons.
Moses Nuwagaba the lawyer to Mwijukye counsel said
his client was not issued with criminal summons so he could not appear
in court for plea taking. He also noted that his client
is beingi treated unfairly since he just returned
from hospital and is beingi accused of inciting violence
yet those who attacked them have not been arrested.
