The Speaker of
Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Annet Among has confirmed that she
has another term in office and she will hand over to her deputy.
The Speaker made these remarks
at a thanksgiving function for Mzee Daudi Bangirana who
is the father of Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the function was
held at Rwakitandara playground in Bitereko Sub County on July 28th.
Speaker Among’s remarks
follows the anti-corruption protests from the youth who were seen demonstrating
against corruption in parliament and in Uganda at large, the protesters demanded
speaker’s resignation.
At a thanksgiving function,
Speaker Among said she not willing to step down from her position as the
speaker, emphasizing that Members of Parliament do not serve as accounting
officers and refuted claims of corruption within the Parliament. She said
the anti-corruption protests were targeting Parliament for
people with their self-interests the fact that the country does not accept homosexual acts.
The speaker applauded people
of Mitooma for voting Hon Thomas Tayebwa as Ruhinda North
MP noting that he is a hand working leader, requesting people to voted him
back. Speaker Among confirmed that she has another five-year term in
office, after that term she will have to hand the Speakership to Hon.
Thomas Tayebwa for the term 2031-2036.
Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa was recommended for
constructing St. Karoli Lwanga Kigarama Catholic Parish
in Bitereko Sub County for 2.7 billion shillings.
