President Museveni Speaks out on Anti-Corruption Protests
President Yoweri
Kaguta Museveni has condemned the ongoing youth protests on Anti-Corruption.
Ugandans especially the youth on Tuesday July 23rd, were protesting, tried to
walk to the parliament building to demonstrate against high-level corruption
and security personnel arrested over 60 demonstrators.
On Thursday, also
Police arrested other 16 people in the same protests and security authorities
say these protests are illegal citing failure by organisers to inform security
about the motive of demonstrating.
Via his X
formerly Twitter, President Museveni congratulated the Armed Forces, Security
Forces and the Wanainchi, for foiling or not participating in what he called
the bad demonstration that was planned on July 23rd. According to the
president, the demonstration, had two bad elements including funds from foreign
sources that are always interfering with the internal affairs of Africa and
another element, was that some of the authors and participants of the demonstrations,
were planning very bad things against the people of Uganda.
President Museveni
says some of the participants, did not know of the planned foreign funding and
the planned bad things hence it’s the reason as to why, they did not listen to
the police advice not to go on with the demonstration. Otherwise, if it was a
patriotic, anti-corruption, peaceful demonstration, co-ordinated with the
Police, I would have been the first to join, the president said.
