Kitagwenda NRM Registrar admits Kitagwenda has chaotic NRM LC 1 elections
Kitagwenda District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Registrar, Dr. Charles Bakamya has called for the adoption of secret ballot voting in future Local Council (LC1) elections, citing the increasing violence and chaos experienced during recent party structure elections.
In an interview with KC News, Bakamya expressed concern over the current voting system, where voters line up behind their preferred candidates. He described this method as divisive and detrimental to community relations.
The most recent NRM structure elections in Kitagwenda were marred by widespread violence, particularly during LC1 contests. Bakamya believes that transitioning to a secret ballot system would help reduce tensions and restore trust in the electoral process.
He also pointed out ongoing issues with voter registers, noting that missing names have significantly contributed to the chaotic scenes witnessed at polling stations.
Bakamya’s call for electoral reforms comes at a time when the party is reflecting on lessons from recent elections and exploring ways to strengthen its internal democratic processes.
