Kyadondo East Legislator, Hon Muwada Nkunyingi has called on both Ugandan and Kenyan governments to explain the circumstances surrounding the reported disappearance of Dr. Kizza Besigye, a former presidential candidate.
Besigye was repo-rtedly missing in Kenya before resurfacing at a Court Martial in Makindye without the proper legal extradition processes being followed by both governments.
Dr. Besigye, toegther with his comrade Hajji Obed Lutabe were remanded to Luzira Prison until December 2nd over charges relating to security, illegal possession of two pistols and illegal possession of eight rounds of ammunition.
Speaking to Media today at Parliament, Hon Nkunyingi stated that this manner of arrest and the implications of "kidnapping" have created insecurity among citizens of the East African Community.
“This is concerning that several Ugandan nationals are reported to be missing within Kenya in the recent months, and the same Ugandan nationals who are reported missing later resurface being aligned in Ugandan courts of law to face criminal charges and this has been consistent done without extradition proceedings in Kenya. This trend of arrest and disappearance of Ugandan citizens in Kenya, plus the continued disregard of extradition proceedings is concerning and compromises universal rights and security of persons within the East African Community,” Nkunyingi said.
Besigye's family has strongly denied these allegations, asserting that the former presidential candidate has not owned a gun in 20 years.
