Kabale High court sitting in Kisoro has convicted a 22 year old man over aggravated defilement. The convict has been identified as Kwitonda Ronald, a resident of Gacaca village in Buhumbu parish, Busanza Sub County in Kisoro district. By the time of his arrest, he was a student at Kabaya tailoring institute and a youth leader at Kinanira Catholic Church.
Court heard that on 1st January, 2020 while at Busenyagabo village, Busengo parish in Nyarubuye sub county, Kwitonda forcefully had sexual intercourse with a 16 year old girl. The Victim who was serving as a youth member at Kinanira Catholic Church while returning home from night prayers.
Kwitonda denied the allegations against him. The Kabale High Court Judge, Emokor Samuel, said that the evidence tendered before court by prosecution and the information given by the prosecution witnesses as well medical reports done on a girl proved that Kwitonda committed the crime while aware he was infected with HIV/AIDS.
state Prosecutor, Ainomugisha Christopher requested the Judge to give the suspect a heavy punishment since he caused trauma to the victim because of HIV infection risk. Justice Emokor sent 11th August, 2023 as the date for passing his sentence.
