Authorities in Bushenyi have confirmed Anthrax disease
in Kyeizooba Sub-County, Bushenyi district after one person
lost his life to this disease.
Dr. Roberts Natukunda,
the Bushenyi District Health Officer confirmed the report
noting that the samples that were collected from five individuals
suspected of consuming a dead animal tested positive for this disease. He urged
residents to seek medical treatment as some individuals have
previously dismissed their symptoms, believing they were being bewitched.
Dr. Natukunda
noted that several people have started exhibiting symptoms consistent with
anthrax, and tragically one individual passed away and was buried on
Thursday, despite protests from residents who accused others
in the community of witchcraft.
The doctor
emphasized that the government is working diligently to obtain vaccines to
immunize animals which is essential for controlling the spread of the
disease.
