Police arrest PDM Sacco Chairperson over extortion
Security officials in Sheema district have arrested Katushabe Juliet, chairperson of Masyoro Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO for allegedly extorting money from beneficiaries of the government-led initiative aimed at transitioning 39% of Uganda's population from subsistence living to a money economy.
Juliet was apprehended on orders of Sheema District Deputy Resident Commissioner Sam Orikunda following multiple complaints from beneficiaries that she solicited between 200,000 to 300,000 shillings to include their names on the beneficiary list.
Resident Kyotungire Annah reported that Juliet has extorted over 70 individuals since the program began.
This incident is part of a broader trend in November, the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) arrested two district councillors, including District Speaker Robert Nkwemerire and Masheruka Town Council councillor Robert Matsiko, for misappropriating PDM funds, violating directives that bar civil servants and political leaders from benefiting from the program.
