Police in Rwampara District are searching for a man who attacked
and injured two Mwizi Sacco staff members during a loan payment recovery
attempt.
According to reliable sources, Moureen Tusingwire and Leopold
Kashaija went to recover loan payments from Yona Tumwebaze, a resident of
Kabatanagyi 2 Cell, Kigaga Parish in Mwizi Sub County in Rwampara District.
Upon arriving at Tumwebaze's home, he turned against them, picked up a panga
and attacked them injuring Tusingwire on her left leg and Kashaija on his arm.
When the two staff members raised the alarm, Tumwebaze fled into
a nearby bush and police are currently hunting him.
Charles Mwesiga, the LC1 chairperson of Kabatanagyi Two Cell
confirmed the incident noting that this was not the first time the Sacco staff
had come to demand loan repayment, as Tumwebaze had been evasive until
yesterday.
When contacted for comment Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, stated that he had not yet received a report regarding the incident.
