People are encouraged to report domestic violence cases to the appropriate authorities, including Local Chairpersons (LC1s), Councilors, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and the Police.
In a recent interview with KC News, Charles Bampabwire Kitiribita, the Officer in Charge of the Family and Children Protection Unit at Kazo Police Station notes that last year, his department recorded 150 cases of domestic violence. So far this year, they have documented 50 cases within the entire district.
Kitiribita urged individuals across the country to prioritize the well-being of their children, highlighting a concerning trend of child abuse that has emerged in the district.
He also called on men to come forward with their own cases of domestic violence, noting that many fear reporting incidents for fear of societal stigma. He says it is vital for everyone to speak out and seek help without fear of judgment in order to combat these issues effectively.
