The Anti-Corruption Unit of the State House together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate have brought Kamuntu Semakula Ivan, also known as Majambere, the Deputy RDC of Rukiga District, before Gomba Magistrates' Court on charges of land grabbing.
Majambere, along with other accomplices who are still at large, faces charges of Conspiracy to Defraud, Stealing Cattle, and Criminal Trespass. The court heard that in August 2023, Majambere and his accomplices violently seized a farmland of approximately 300 acres in Gomba District, belonging to 75-year-old Frank Rushanganwa, who has held a certificate of title for the land since 2003.
During the incident, the suspects stole 157 cows valued at UGX 318 million and transported them to an undisclosed location. Majambere claims to have purchased part of the land from his co-accused, Amos Mwesigye, in 2020. Mwesigye, however, asserted that he had acquired the entire property in 2018 but failed to provide proof of purchase.
To further consolidate their illegal occupation, the duo are said to have sold portions of the land to unsuspecting individuals and in March 2024, the court issued an eviction order against Mwesigye.
Despite this order, both men continued to pose a threat to the legitimate owner, Rushanganwa, prompting the intervention of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and leading to Majambere's arrest. He has been remanded until December 3, 2024.
