Police in Buhweju investigate case of Suicide by shooting
Police in Buhweju District are investigating the apparent suicide of 21-year-old security guard Turyamuhaki Victor who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 27, 2025.
Greater Bushenyi Police Spokesperson, Martial Tumusiime confirmed the incident noting that the case has been under Buhweju C.R.B.156/2025 as an alleged suicide.
According to Tumusiime, Turyamuhaki, an employee of Agri-Security Ltd stationed at Muhame Financial Services SACCO in Butare, returned home around 10 p.m. on April 26 while still in uniform and carrying his service submachine gun (SMG) which he reportedly went to bed with.
His wife, Orishaba Pellon told police that at approximately 5:56 a.m on April 27, she heard her husband removing ammunition from the gun and immediately alerted Turyamuhaki’s coworker, Arinda Nicholas, who then notified the police.
Responding officers recovered the SMG along with four rounds of ammunition from the scene and the body was transported to Nsiika Health Center IV for a post-mortem examination.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather more information surrounding the circumstances of the incident.
