Severe Rainstorm Wreaks Havoc in Bushenyi
Over 21 homesteads and one school in Nyanga Ward, Bitooma Town Council in Bushenyi district are facing significant losses following a heavy downpour that has ravaged the area, destroying crops and homes.
The severe rain, accompanied by strong winds occurred yesterday at around 4 PM. It resulted into extensive damage to houses and food crops, including banana plantations, cassava gardens, and bean fields, as well as the government-aided Nyamishundo Primary School.
James Atukwatse, the LC3 Chairperson of Bitooma Town Council reported that the heavy rains submerged the home of LC1 chairman of Nyanga village, leaving him in critical condition. He was rushed to Comboni Hospital in Kyamuhunga, while family members sought treatment at a nearby clinic.
William Katsigazi, the Deputy RDC warned that the destruction of crops could lead to famine. He assured that his office would coordinate with the district leaders to assess the damage and prepare a report for the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness for intervention.
