Former Leader of Opposition declines to resign as Commissioner of Parliament
Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Mathias Mpuuga
has released a statement responding to allegations made by National Unity
Platform (NUP) leaders who asked him to resign over corruption matters.
In a statement released yesterday February, 29, NUP leaders
informed the public that they had a meeting on Wednesday, February, 28th where they discussed about
issues concerning corruption matters on Mpuuga and other 3 members of NUP whose
names were not disclosed in a statement. NUP leaders including the party’s
president Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine said Mpuuga admitted to have
received Shs. 500 million under the guise of service awards.
According to the press statement from NUP, during the meeting,
Mpuuga admitted that he indeed took part in the said allocation of money and
apologized for the same. It is from here, that NUP leaders advised Hon Mpuuga
to resign from his position as the commissioner of parliament days after they
had dropped him as the leader of opposition in parliament.
After these allegations, Commissioner of Parliament Hon Mathias
Mpuuga(From NUP party) has released a statement responding to NUP leaders
confirming that he won't resign. According to Mpuuga's statement, he is aware
of different party leaders who have been official in undermining his work
including hiring of bloggers to abuse and insult him as aperson.
Mpuuga sais he will not stop raising questions on the actions, motivation and direction of different actors in the party doing much to undermine him. He said he won't resign from his position as commissioner of parliament as advised by his party leaders, based on spite and deliberate misrepresentation for mischievous reasons.
