Ibanda Grade One Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded a resident of Kicuzi Sub-County to Nyabuhikye Prison for allegedly beating and injuring a female neighbour.

Rogers Banyonyooza, from Kaaro Karungi village in Kicuzi Sub-County is accused of unlawfully assaulting Adrine Kentembwe, 32, also from the same area, on December 11 resulting in actual bodily harm.

According to police records, Banyonyooza reportedly attacked Kentembwe at her home without any provocation. Kentembwe subsequently reported the incident to the Irimya Police Post, leading to Banyonyooza's arrest and detention and was later transferred to Ibanda Central Police Station for formal charges.

During his appearance before Ibanda Grade One Magistrate Esther Murungi on December 17, Banyonyooza denied the charge and was remanded to Nyabuhikye Prison until January 14, 2025, when the case is scheduled for mention.

The offense of assault causing actual bodily harm contravenes Section 219 of the Penal Code Act and is punishable by up to five years in prison upon conviction.
