Hon Zaake's video clip played in parliament, house suspended
The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa was forced to suspend parliament today following chaos that erupted in the house following a video clip that was played where a member of parliament was accused of attacking a fellow.
This follows a complaint raised by Rakai District Woman Member of Parliament, Juliet Kinyamatama who informed Parliament that recently, the Mityana Municipality MP, Francis Zaake uttered words against her. Hon Kinyamatama said the words which Hon Zaake used against her were so despicable and couldn't utter them through her mouth therefore, demanded to have the video clip played before Parliament.
However, her request to have the video played was challenged by Kira Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju who wondered why remarks Kinyamatama had said could not be uttered out of her mouth should be played on national TV. Deputy Speaker later allowed the video to be played and he was prompted to have the matter referred to Parliament's Rules, Privileges & Discipline for investigation, a decision Kinyamatama protested accusing Parliament of trying to cover up for Zaake's evil behavior on account of being a man.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa also ordered for the transmission of the video to Makerere University for translation into the English language because the words uttered in the video were spoken in Luganda. When the NRM Female MPs saw Hon Zaake exit the Parliament chambers, they ambushed him in an attempt to beat him up, but the Seargent at Arms as well as some Opposition MPs rescued Zaake and moved him out. Deputy speaker Tayebwa adjourned Parliament until next week.
