Bushenyi to commence FMD Vaccination

Mass Vaccination against FMD to start in Bushenyi

Bushenyi District is set to carryout massive vaccination against the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) within the district following the outbreak of this disease, that forced the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry to impose quarantine.

Moses Bugyendo, the Bushenyi Ishaka Municipal Animal Husbandry Officer told reporters that the municipality is set to carryout massive vaccination slated to commence on 26th June. Bugyendo noted that since February, animals had been in quarantine that hindered economic matters and development.

Headded that they are targeting to vaccinate over 4200 cows appealing to embrace the exercise and ensure all animals especially cows are vaccinated. He called upon local leaders to cooperate with them to register all animals for vaccination so as to fight Foot and Mouth Disease.

Areas like Nyakabirizi and Central division, Bumbaire, Kyabungimbi and Rwetuha in Kyeizooba had been in quarantine since February and over 40 registered with infection and some few deaths of animals.

According to Dr Robert Natukunda, the Bushenyi district veterinary officer, they received over 20000 doses of vaccine and they will start vaccination exercise with Kyabungimbi Sub County.
