The Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party President, Eng Patrick Oboi Amuriat has apologized to journalists who were assaulted by FDC members at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.
On Thursday, 20th, July, 2023, the journalists were invited to attend a press briefing by the party National Chairman Wasswa Birigwa were not allowed to enter, Birigwa who had invited them forced himself in alone while journalists and other party members were not allowed. Some members allegedly from the party started beating people including journalists who wanted to enter.
Some of the Journalists' property especially phones were taken, others destroyed and this chaos happened when Amuriat was at the headquarters. Journalists who were assaulted have given upto 24th, July, 2023 to FDC party, to apologise and bring back their property they took from them or else they shall not cover FDC press conferences again. Some of the journalists who were beaten included Urban TV intern Racheal Ainembazi, George William Katoloba from Namirembe fm among others.
In a letter addressed to the media fratanity, FDC president Amuriat apologised to journalists who were assaulted. He noted that investigations have commenced within the party to identify those responsible for the violence and noted that they will be held accountable.
