Inspector General of Police, IGP Martins Okoth Ochola has today handed over this office after his contract expired. The function from which Ochola handed over this office of IGP was held at police headquarters at Naguru Kampala.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in March 2018 appointed IGP Ochola as police boss and that time, Ochola replaced Gen Kale Kayihura who was in that office then. Ochola's first 3 year contract expired in March 2021, from where, President Museveni had him reappointed for other 3 years in the office of Inspector General of Police, the 3 years expired today.
Speaking to media today at police headquarters Naguru, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed to media that IGP Ochola handed over the office to his Deputy, Major General Tumusiime Katsigazi who will be working as the Acting Inspector General of Police untill the president appoints a person to be in this office.
In his handover speech, IGP Ochola noted that teamwork, support and guidance from the President and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police as an institution was able to register numerous achievements in policing as well as creating a general atmosphere of calmness, togetherness and a sense of belonging. Ochola expressed his deep personal appreciation and gratitude to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda and the Commander in- Chief of the Armed Forces, for appointing and entrusting me with the leadership of this great Institution.
Ochola applauded police and other security agencies for having worked together towards keeping law and order and urged them to continue steering Police Institution to another level.
