Ban on Animal movement lifted in Kazo
Kazo District Task Force on Foot and Mouth Disease has decided to lift the ban on animal movement and the operation of animal markets.
This resolution comes in response to a directive from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries which encouraged district leaders to lift quarantine restrictions after a successful vaccination campaign that achieved over 95.9% coverage.
Today, members of the Kazo District Task Force convened with sub-county chiefs, LC3 chairpersons, animal traders and others to officially reopen the markets effective immediately.
Zepheline Tumwesigye, the district production officer, confirmed this development.
Several chiefs, traders and chairpersons who attended the meeting expressed their appreciation for the resolution noting that lifting the quarantine will help alleviate poverty in their families, as it had been in place for an extended period.
Gershome Mushabe, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner who chaired the meeting advised all attendees to adhere to the precautions established to prevent the return of the disease to the district.
The district chairperson, Rev. Samuel Mugisha Katugunda, commended the collective efforts of individuals from different sub-counties in the fight against the pandemic.
