We expect Speaker to be neutral -Leader of Opposition
The Leader of Opposition has described the latest directives issued by Speaker, Anita Among regarding the Opposition boycott as diversionary, saying his side will not engage in verbal exchange with the Speaker who is meant to be an arbiter between the two warring sides.
While chairing the plenary on November, 22, the speaker issues directives including imposing a travel ban abroad to opposition legislators who are boycotting parliament sittings, she also asked to have boycotting MPs to be deleted from list of players for the East African games and also barred them from attending Committee meetings. According to Opposition MPs, they decided to boycott plenary sittings after failure of the government to produce the missing 18 people they allege were abducted by security personnel.
Speaking to media today morning on issues of speaker's directives, the Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga noted that their absence from Parliament was officially communicated hence he said, they will not return to Parliament without their demands being responded to. Mpuuga said they expect Speaker Among to be neutral; an arbitor or referee whose duty is to demand that the Executive comes and answer.
