Three dead as Rift Valley Fever is confirmed in Ntungamo
Health Officials in Ntungamo district have confirmed the outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in the district.
According to health officials, the disease has already claimed three people with in areas of Nyarutuntu, Itojo and Rubaare. Moses Asiimwe who is the District Surveillance Focal Person says the majority of cases are registered among people aged between 13 and 45.
Acting District Health Officer, Beatrice Chemisto says as ways of preventing the spread of this disease, they are commencing with public awareness campaigns so as to educate people on how they can handle dead animals. This disease has so far been confirmed in Ntungamo, Sheema and Mbarara Districts
Rift Valley fever is a viral disease of humans and livestock that can cause severe symptoms including fever, muscle pains, and headaches which often last for up to a week.
