Speaker condemns rearrest of MP Paul Akamba
Speaker Anita Among has confirmed that Busiki County MP, Paul Akamba who was recently kidnapped from premises of Anti-Corruption Court after securing bail, is held up at Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli over fresh charges he is accused of.
Hon Akamba was on Friday, June 14th, violently arrested from court after being granted a Shs13 million cash bail and Shs100m non-cash. Akamba was the only legislator granted bail while other 2 MPs Yusuf Mutembuli of Bunyole East and Cissy Namujju of Lwengo District were remanded to Luzira Prison over corruption charges.
MP Akamba was picked by armed security men, driven away to an unknown destination and since then, reports were not indicating where exactly is MP Akamba. Today in Parliament, Speaker Anita Among told MPs that Hon Akamba currently is held up at Criminal Investigations Directorate headquarters in Kibuli over fresh charges he is accused of. The Speaker also noted that she had agreed with Police to present her with summons of all MPs, instead of Police picking up MPs anyhow.
