Government asked to prioritise vehicle inspections
Speaker Anita Among has urged the government to revive mandatory inspection of vehicles in Uganda in order to reduce on road crashes instigated by vehicles in poor mechanical conditions. This comes after a road crash that happened yesterday April 18th, at Entebbe -Expressway in Wakiso where one person lost his life.
The accident happened after a cement mixer truck rammed into a saloon car at Nkumba University traffic lights. The driver of a cement mixer truck registration number UAN 836D is said to have lost control, the truck later fell onto a Mitsubishi RVR registration number UBQ 371P in the morning of April 18th in Wakiso District.
The deceased was identified as Okoit
Raphael ,34, a lawyer working with MALDEF Advocates and a resident of Seeta who
was also a lecturer at Uganda Christian University.
While in Parliament today, Kabula County Legislator,
Hon Enos Asiimwe noted that the tentative cause had to do a lot with
the truck that lost control, where he asked to know what happened to regular
inspection of vehicles to determine their roadworthiness. Hon Asiimwe was quick
to say that people are having trucks that are out of control hence
requested the Ministry of Works and Transport help to answer what are their
plans for regular inspection ofvehicles.
The Speaker Among responded by urging the government to revive
mandatory inspection of vehicles in Uganda to reduce on-road crashes instigated
by vehicles in poor mechanical conditions.
