One dies from suspected Anthrax in Bushenyi
Suspected Anthrax has claimed one life with four others currently battling illness after consuming meat from a dead animal in Kyeizooba Sub County, Bushenyi District.
Victor Bakikunde, the Chairman of LC3 Kyeizooba Sub County noted that while no confirmation of anthrax has been made, some community members are attributing the illnesses to witchcraft.
Bakikunde reported that the cases were identified in Kitagata Parish. The veterinary department has been notified and samples were collected yesterday for laboratory analysis.
Dr. Roberts Natukunda, the Bushenyi District Veterinary Officer confirmed that people did consume the dead animal but it has yet to be determined if anthrax is the cause as symptoms have appeared in individuals with one person having passed away.
He urged the community to refrain from consuming dead animals or coming into contact with them to prevent further health risks.
