Three Legislators and a
lawyer have been remanded to Luzira Prison on charges of Diversion of Funds and
Conspiracy to Defraud.
The MPs; Mawanda Micheal
Maranga of Igara East in Bushenyi District, Wamakuyu Ignatuis Mudimi of Elgon
in Bulambuli District, Akamba Paul of Busiki in Namutumba District and a lawyer
Kirya Julius of Kirya Company Advocates have appeared before the
Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala on charges of Diversion of Funds and
Conspiracy to Defraud.
The accused and others
still at large conspired and diverted money amounting to over UGX3.4B meant for
war loss compensation by government to Buyaka Growers Cooperative
Society for their personal use.
These MPs and a lawyer
have been remanded to Luzira Prison until 9th July 2024 as investigations
continue.
