Court in Ibanda remands two suspects over theft
Ibanda Chief Magistrate’s Court remanded at Nyabuhikye Prison two men suspected of stealing cattle.
Herbert Mwebesa, from Kashongi in Kiruhura district and John Mwebazeruhanga, 46, from Mpunda in Bwenda, Rukiri Sub-County in Ibanda district will stay on remand until May 30 when the hearing of the case will commence.
The suspects allegedly stolen 6 cows worth Shs. 12 M from former Kibubura Girls’ SS head teacher Jane Tumusiimirwa's farm on January 20, this year.
Before adjourning the case, the chief magistrate explained the court’s practice was not to grant bail to individuals suspected of livestock thefts, but rather a speedy trial for such cases.
Earlier, Mwebazeruhanga’s lawyer Wilfred Nasasira had urged that the offence he was facing was bailable and that investigations into the matter were complete to no avail.
