Police in Kazo District are investigating a case of alleged torture involving a 13-year-old girl who has been in the care of a woman identified only as Judith. Judith, a resident of Bwizi A Cell in Buremba Town Council, Kazo District has been responsible for the girl since she was three years old.

Residents of Bwizi A Cell have reported that Judith has been subjecting the girl to severe abuse, including recently burning her on the face, legs and private parts without providing any medical treatment.

Twine Dan, the chairperson of Bwizi A Cell confirmed the reports and noted that he had agreed to look after the child until Judith returns from a burial in Kinoni Sub County, Kiruhura District.

Following the allegation, Dan took the child to Buremba Police Station, where officers advised him to continue caring for her while they await Judith's return.

Sgt. Kwizera Fidel, the Officer in Charge of Buremba Police Station, stated that an investigation has commenced regarding the case, with the child currently under the care of the chairperson. He assured that the investigation will continue as soon as Judith returns from Kiruhura where she went to attend a burial ceremony of her relative.
