Police in Busia district are investigating the
cause of a fire that broke out at Busia Victory Primary School located in
Kisenyi B Village, Busia Municipality, Busia District, killing four children
and leaving one with minor injuries. The fire gutted a boys’ dormitory
that housed 62 pupils on the night of 18th of March 2024 while pupils
were sleeping.
Fire and Rescue team from Busia Police Station was
informed about the incident responded immediately, extinguished the
fire and it was discovered that four pupils (boys) lost their lives in the
fire. The deceased pupils are Oburu John Richard of P.4, Abdul Ali of P.3,
Magero James of P.5, and Adero Makhoha of P.6 while the injured one is Egesa
Alvin of P.1, currently receiving treatment at BMK Clinic in Busia
Municipality.
Bukedi South Region Police Spokesperson, Mugwe
James Moses in a statement he released today said the other children managed to
escape the fire. He said the bodies of the deceased have been transferred to
Busia Health Center IV for postmortem examinations and preparation for handover
to the Regional Police Surgeon for DNA analysis.
According to Mugwe, samples from parents or relatives will also be collected for matching, ensuring the proper handover of the deceased persons to their respective families and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
