Woman delivers quintuplets after 32 year of waiting
Efrance Kobusingye,
a 52-year-old woman from Nyaruhanda Cell, Kikondo Ward
in Kitagwenda District, has welcomed quintuplets—three girls and two
boys—after a 32-year struggle with infertility.
Kobusingye, married to 62-year-old retired
secondary school teacher Tunanukye Clesensio, underwent
a Cesarean section at Neo Care Clinic in Booma, Mbarara City, on
Tuesday night, despite being just seven months into her pregnancy. The newborns were
promptly transferred to the intensive care unit at Holy Innocent’s Children’s
Hospital in Mbarara for specialized care.
Tunanukye shared that the couple
married in 1992 and had spent decades trying to conceive, visiting numerous
health facilities in locations such as Ibanda, Fort Portal, and Kampala.
Their determination led them to seek assistance from Neo Care Fertility Clinic
in Mbarara City last year, where Kobusingye was diagnosed with
fibroids—a condition that had affected her fertility. After treatment, she miraculously
conceived.
While the couple is overjoyed, the journey
to parenthood has placed a significant financial strain on
them. Tunanukye noted that they sold all their property in pursuit of
a child, spending approximately 30 million Ugandan shillings on fertility
treatments.
Kobusingye, who relies on agriculture for her livelihood, spoke
candidly about the stigma she faced from family members due to her infertility,
making the birth of her quintuplets feel even more miraculous.
