Road users urged to be careful as 77 die in road accidents
77 people died and 399 others sustained injuries from road accidents during last week from February 25th to March 2nd. According to Police Traffic Department, among the 77 people who died in road accidents, 25 people were motorcyclists, 22 were pedestrians, and 07 were passengers on motorcycles.
Traffic Police Spokesperson, Michael Kananura told media today that the major causes of these crashes were; Careless overtaking, Over Speeding among other reasons. He said as Traffic Police, they are continuing with operations among boda bodas without crash helmets, reflective jackets and driving permits as a way of reducing road crashes.
He urged all road users especially those using motor vehicles, motorcycles to always be extra careful when children are around and when driving near schools, be friendly to old people and disabled persons when they are having difficulty crossing the road.
