Police in Kazo District have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suicide of a 90-year-old man, Yusuf Kataryeba, who was found hanging from a jackfruit tree in Keicumu 1 village, Engari Sub County.

The deceased wife, Mauda Kibatsikanira, 80, reported that she was in her garden around 10 AM when neighbors alerted her to the tragic discovery. She speculated that her husband may have taken his own life due to stress, as they had no nearby relatives after moving from Kyazanga-Masaka District and had no children despite being married for six years.

Alex Asiimwe, the LC1 Chairperson of Keicumu 1 village, expressed shock at Kataryeba's death, noting that he was a humble resident with no history of troubling behavior.

Kenneth Taremwa Mukuru, the village defense chairman, highlighted that this was the second suicide incident in the area and urged residents to seek counseling and support instead of resorting to such drastic measures.
