20 people have been confirmed dead, and 9 rescued after a boat they were traveling in capsized on Lake Victoria in the wee hours of Wednesday, 2nd, August, 2023.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango says 34 people were allegedly on board. He says the boat was carrying bags of charcoal, fresh foods, silver fish among others.

Onyango attributes the cause of accident to overloading and bad weather. He says Police Marines, UPDF Fisheries Protection Unit and local community are on the waters trying to locate the missing people.
