Foot and Mouth Disease cases increase in Bushenyi
Authorities in Bushenyi ishaka Municipality are worried over the increased number of cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the area.
Bushenyi- Ishaka Municipal Animal Husbandry Officer, Moses Bugyendo says the disease is spreading at a high rate especially in Nyakabirizi and Central Divisions. He says by the time of announcing the animal quarantine, animals were affected with the disease however of now, over 38 animals are affected with Foot and mouth disease. According to Bugyendo, the challenge is that many cases are not reported to concerned authorities which makes the disease to spread more.
He also attributed the increase of this disease to farmers and other people who have failed to cooperate with leaders in enforcing the quarantine guidelines like restriction of animal movements whereby farmers sometimes have involved themselves in transporting their animals. He urged the public to cooperate with authorities in fighting this disease.
