The Legislators championing the censure of four Parliamentary Commissioners accused of sharing themselves money (Shs1.7Bn) as Service Award, have announced to conduct a nationwide tour, collecting signatures from MPs who are trapped in their constituencies and can’t make it to Parliament during this recess period.
The Commissioners accused include former leader of opposition, Mathias Mpuuga who is said to have got Shs. 500M, Solomon Silwany, the Bukhooli Central MP, Zombo District Woman MP Esther Afoyochan and Rubanda District Woman MP Prossy Mbabazi. The team of MPs spearheading the censure are leader by Lwemiyaga County MP, Theodore Ssekikubo who told journalists today they have so far collected 167 signatures from MPs and only 10 are missing to have 177 as the required number of signatures.
Ssekikubo noted that the motion of censuring is so critical that they cannot afford to drop it. He said that they have written to the clerk, to avail us with transport in form of the parliamentary van and security only so that they reach out MPs in their districts to have their signatures appended.
This tour according to Ssekikubo will start on 1st July 2024 and they will start with the Eastern region in Jinja. Richard Muhumuza, the MP for Bwamba County defended the decision to take the collection of signatures across the country saying, they will not hide their heads in the sand and assume things are okay, when some MPs have failed to give out accountability of taxi payers money.
