Fire outbreak in Rwampara School
Police in Rwampara District are investigating the cause of the fire that gutted two boys' dormitories at Rwenyaga Secondary School in Rwenyaga Cell, Mwizi Sub County, Rwampara District. The fire gutted these two dormitories of Peace and Rich at this school on April 14th, at around 7pm.
The fire broke out when students had gone to watch a football match between Arsenal and Aston Villa in the school main hall. The fire broke out in the Felix block which houses two dormitories of Peace that accommodates 48 students and Rich accommodates 32 and teachers had to disconnect electricity.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says teachers together with students were able to rescue property from the Rich dormitory and they tried to put off the fire with water and soil but unfortunately all the property in the Peace Dormitory were destroyed including the roof of the structure noting that no student was affected during this incident.
Kasasira confirms that preliminary investigations indicate that a charcoal flat iron was left on a bed as students were rushing to watch the Arsenal match and this could have been the cause of the fire outbreak. Inquiries into the matter are still ongoing.
