The Ibanda Magistrate
Court has convicted a 20-year-old teenager, Herbert Twinomuhangi for
breaking into a teacher’s house and stealing her money. During his appearance
before Grade One Magistrate Esther Murungi on October
1, Twinomuhangi, a resident of Kafunjo I cell in Bufunda Division
pleaded guilty to the charges.
Court heard that on July
8, Twinomuhangi broke into the home of 42-year-old Alice Asiimwe
stealing Shs. 310,000. His crime was discovered when a neighbour saw him
leaving the house and informed Asiimwe, who later reported the incident to the
police.
Twinomuhangi was arrested weeks later
when he resurfaced and after admitting to the crime, he claimed he
found Asiimwe's door open and initially thought there was sh290,000
visible on the table. He has been remanded to Nyabuhikye Prison and
will return to court for sentencing on October 22.
Housebreaking can result in a maximum sentence of eight years,
while theft carries a maximum of ten years.
