Embrace voter registration-Ibanda RDC urges residents
Residents of Ibanda District were advised to verify their voter registration and re-register if necessary by February 10th of this year to ensure they are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections.
Godfrey Mbetegyereize, the Ibanda Resident District Commissioner (RDC), made the call during the Ibanda District Baraza meeting held at Keihangara Sub-county Headquarters. He emphasized that individuals who are not registered with the Electoral Commission or the National Resistance Movement (NRM) will not be allowed to vote.
The RDC, however, clarified that the Baraza meeting was not politically motivated, but rather a forum to assess the performance of leaders, identify areas where the people have not received adequate services, and address the problems affecting them.
At the meeting, several residents raised concerns about various issues, including: Water scarcity where they expressed their need for improved access to water.
Roads: They complained about the poor condition of roads in the area, leading to difficulties in accessing basic services.
Extortion: Some residents reported being extorted money in exchange for benefits from government programs, such as the Poverty Eradication and Development (PDM) fund.
To address these concerns, several officials provided updates and explanations:
Duncan Kansiime, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) at Ibanda Central Police Station, urged residents to be security-conscious, especially given the limited police presence in the area.
Happy Herbert Mayanja, the District Chairman, tasked LC1 chairpersons to work together to prevent the destruction of roads by brick makers and that some roads have been renovated, while others are in the planning stage.
Kuda Moris, the Ibanda District Commercial Officer, informed residents about the availability of Emyoga funds and PDM, and encouraged them to apply for these benefits.
By attending these meetings and engaging with local leaders, residents of Keihangara Sub-county are taking the first steps towards ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns are addressed.
