Jinja Officials face abuse of office charges, remanded
Two Jinja City
officials have been arraigned before the Anti- Corruption Court
in Kampala on charges of Abuse of Office.
The accused
are Mulopa Haruna (Education Officer), Ngobi Samuel
(Assistant Sports Officer) and Mutesi Amina
(Principal Education Officer) who is currently on the run.
The suspects are said to have abused their authority by ordering the diversion
of UPE capitation grants to other activities in the city.
The Anti- Corruption Court heard that the
suspects irregularly ordered Head Teachers of several government’s aided
schools in Jinja City to make contributions from the UPE capitation
grants to City Council activities and Sports workshops, which contravenes with
the UPE Guidelines and Regulations for handling public funds. They have been
remanded until 28/08/2024.
