New Secondary School for Kenshunga Sub County: A Long-Awaited Dream Realized
Residents of Kenshunga Sub County in Kiruhura district have
long been calling for the establishment of their own secondary school and their
plea has now been answered. Reverend Father Paolina Mondo, of Rushere Catholic
Parish has donated land for the construction of a new secondary school in
Mitooma Catholic Church located in Mitooma Cell, Kenshunga Sub County in
Kiruhura district.
The school, dubbed St. Mary's SSS Mitooma, began its journey
last year with a senior one class. To ensure the continued development of the
school and cater to the education needs of the community, a fundraising
function was held at Mitooma Catholic Church, where approximately 11 million
shillings were collected to add a senior two class room.
The function was led by chairman LCIII for Kenshunga, Matsiko
Perez Mujwani and his committee, in collaboration with Reverend Father Paolina
Mondo. Reverend Father Paolina Mondo urged leaders and parents to ensure the
school's sustainability by providing a full range of educational services,
including teachers, students and necessary resources.
Matsiko Mujwani Perez emphasized that it will benefit parents
who cannot afford to send their children to distant schools due to financial
constraints. He also expressed a need for a health center in Rugongi Parish.
The function was graced by Kiruhura District Chairman, Dan
Mukago Rutetebya who promised to supply the school with national water and
assist in the construction process. Hon. Jovanis Rwenduru, the District Woman
MP for Kiruhura and Hon. Wilson Kajwengye, MP for Nyabushozi County,
contributed to the construction of the school's class room block and pledged to
lobby for its success.
The budget for the construction of the school's class room
block is approximately 150 million shillings.
