Police in Rwizi Region, Mbarara is investigating circumstances under which Kiruhura District LC 5 Vice Chairperson is accused of rape.

The suspect, Atuheirwe Adason,30, a resident of Kashongi in Kiruhura district, is alleged to have raped a 20 year old student. According to police finding, earlier this month of September 8th, the suspect exchanged contacts with the victim while they were in Kakoba Ward in Mbarara City.

Reports indicate that the suspect last week rang the victim who was in her hostel in Kyapatoni Cell in Kakoba offering to take her out to buy drinks, groceries among others, the student agreed.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga while addressing journalists yesterday confirmed the reports noting that while on their way back from shopping, Atuheirwe is said to have deviated from the expected route, took another route and raped the student in a car they were travelling in, Toyota Premo Reg. Number UAT 238Q. The victim reported this matter to authorities who took action and arrested Atuhairwe. Reports indicate the suspect has been released on bond as investigations continue.
