Luuka accident claims two lives
Police in Luuka are investigating a fatal accident in which two people
lost their lives in Nawansega Cell, Bukova Town council in Luuka District. The
deceased are Gladys Aliyinza, a resident of Lambala Village in Irongo Sub
County and Yusufu Biita the Vice chairman LC II kirimwa parish, Bukooma Sub
county in Luuka district, along Kamuli-Kaliro road.
Aliyinza,34, was a wife to the President Yoweri Museveni's deputy press
secretary Faruk Kirunda and has been eyeing a seat of Luuka woman Member of
Parliament in the coming 2026 general elections. The duo was travelling in a
double cabin Reg no UG4654C which had a head-on collision with a sugarcane
loaded lorry Reg.No. UAU 073G.
Busoga North Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Kasadha Micheal says the
lorry that was loaded with sugarcane from Kaliro side, was sloping and it
collided with climbing double cabin from the opposite direction before
overturning several times.
Biita died on spot, and attempts to have Aliyinza’s life saved did not
yield as she died on the way to Musana Hospital in Kaliro District. The body of
Biita was conveyed to Kiyunga Health centre IV for post-mortem, while the body
of Aliyinza was taken to Musana community Hospital for post-mortem.
ASP Kasadha says the accident could have been caused by excessive speed
noting that the hunt for both drivers of these cars is ongoing as they escaped
after the incident.
