Buhweju County Legislator, Hon Francis Mwijukye and 7 other people were attacked in a land wrangle in Buhweju district. This incident happened yesterday May 12th, 2024 in Rwanyamabare Village, Nyakishana Sub County in Buhweju District, where the legislator and other 7 people were attacked while attending a Sunday Mass at Rwanyamabare Catholic Church.
Buhweju District LCV Chairman, Deo Atuhaire in a statement he released indicated that Hon Mwijukye was assaulted by a group of “land grabbers” who were armed with machetes, sticks, and stones. Atuhaire explained that the attack happened while Mwijukye was addressing members of Rwanyamabare Catholic Church, who accused their neighbor, Kamugisha Frank of encroaching on their land.
Sources indicate that Hon Mwijukye was rescued by police from Buhweju who rushed him to a hospital in Mbarara for treatment while others who were injured were also admitted to Nsiika Health Center IV. However, Mwijukye requested discharge and sought medical attention to a yet to be identified hospital.
