Police explains arrest of NUP MPs
Police have
arrested some Members of Parliament from the National Unity Platform (NUP)
after they attempted to access the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule,
Kampala. Earlier, Police and military were seen heavily deployed at NUP’s party
headquarters as the party was planning to have a press conference.
Mawogola County
MP Gorreth Namugga was seen protesting the presente of
security at NUP headquarters whereby security personnel were captured
trying to snatch her phone accusing her of taking pictures
around the area.
Among MPs who have been
arrested while attempting to access the party headquarters are
Hassan Kirumira (Katikamu South) Francis Tebandeke (Bbaale County)
and Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality) among others.
While addressing the media today at Police
headquarters Naguru-Kampala, Police
Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma noted that security
deployment at NUP headquarters came up after security noticing a
large crowd of people coming at their headquarters which could disrupt peace.
