Police in Kanungu District are holding a 33-year-old man on allegations of murdering his 17-year-old biological daughter Precious Kyosimire and injuring his wife Faustina Katuhebwa, all residents of Kahama village in Nyamirama Sub County in Kanungu district.

 The suspect has been identified as Gideon Muganirwe and according to Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, this tragic incident occurred on January 9, 2024, at their charcoal burning workplace. It is alleged that Muganirwe demanded money from his wife while she was asleep, leading to a quarrel and the suspect grabbed a machete (panga) inflicted serious injuries on his daughter and wife.

 The victims were promptly taken to Kihihi Health Centre for treatment, Precious who was seriously injured, was referred to Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri district, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police visited the crime scene and postmortem was conducted at Nyakibale Hospital in Rukungiri district.

Muganirwe was apprehended and is currently in custody at Kihihi Central Police station under reference number CRB 017/2024, as investigations into the matter are ongoing.
