Police have dismissed
allegations that have been indicating that Kampala Metropolitan CID
Commander Joel Ntabu was torturing and
threatening suspects arrested for anti-corruption
demonstrations. Over 100 youth protesters were arrested for
participating in what was called “March to Parliament” who were
demonstrating against corruption.
The suspects were taken to
prisons over inciting violence charges, some were relased on bail and
they have been accusing police officers including Kampala Metropolitan CID
Commander Joel Ntabu of torturing them while they were in police
cells. The torture claims indicated that suspects were assaulted,
slapped, beaten by police officers under Ntabu’s command.
While speaking to the media today at police
headquarters Naguru Kampala, Deputy Police Spokesperson for
Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire dismissed these torture
allegations saying the Ntabu cannot supervise suspects hence he had
no chances of seeing these suspects and torturing them as they claimed. Owoyesigyire however
asked anyone with evidence of being tortured by Ntabu to bring that
evidence to Police for investigations.
