Soroti Woman MP Proposes the reduction of Parliament
The Shadow Minister of Public Service who is also Soroti Woman MP, Hon Adeke Anna Ebaju has proposed downsizing Parliament to have each district represented by two Members of Parliament (one male and one female).
She argues that Ugandan MPs represent fewer constituents compared to their counterparts in Nigeria and India, despite those countries having larger populations.
Her proposal is outlined in the Alternative Policy Statement for the Public Service Sector for 2025/26 fiscal year, where she contends that the current size of Parliament is unnecessarily large and places an undue financial burden on Ugandan taxpayers.
The current 11th Parliament has 529 Members of Parliament.
