Residents seek help after several hailstorm
Several
families across three villages of Obwino, Rwentaka,
and Nyabwina within Bumbaire Subcounty in
the Bushenyi District are facing starvation after severe hailstorms
devastated their plantations and gardens, while also damaging homes.
The hailstorm, which included a heavy downpour lasting
three hours, caused extensive damage to coffee, banana, and cassava
plantations, as well as bean seedlings. Residents are now grappling with the
aftermath, struggling to come to terms with the extent of their losses.
Kyompaire Evas, a resident
of Rwentaka Village, expressed concern over the significant damage
incurred, raising alarms about a potential food crisis in the near future.
In response to the crisis, Bakunda Saverino,
the LC1 Chairperson, has appealed to the government for urgent food relief
items and seedlings to support the affected communities.
